Working with the atmospheric perspective was a challenge: Because even though objects should grow fainter in color with distance, when I initially did the effect it made it look as though there was humidity in the air - obviously not a major feature of deserts. Eventually, enough tweaks were added to make the air look clear and dry, but still contrast distant objects sufficiently.
