This commission placed a fiery lava dragon into the Starfall mountains of the graphic novel series. Any excuse to work with water and waterfalls makes a good day for me. I tried to increase the 'wetness' and transparency of the liquid in the foreground pool by revealing the stony texture of the pebbles beneath - partly painted in from a photograph I took of a similar aquatic view at Cedar Falls one isolated spring morning. I'm still not satisfied with my handling of water - I want to look at a picture and be able to smell it, to get thirsty just from seeing how lifelike the liquid is. Not there yet, but getting closer I think. Oh, yeah, and the dragon was a blast to draw! I haven't drawn a big scaly dragon in forever, I had forgotten how fun it is.
